Don urgent FG to face the problem outside school in northern Nigeria-Thage

The dean of the Faculty of Education and Educational Educational Expert at Federal University, Lokoja, Professor Rafiu Ademola OlatΓ² underlined the urgent need for the Federal Government to face the problem of Almajiris (children outside school) in the north of Nigeria with immediate effect.

Professor Olatoye made the call while delivering the 29th inaugural conference of Federal University yesterday, Lokoja in his Adankolo campus.

Professor Olateye in his lesson entitled Lamentation and Consolation in the adventure of an educational evaluator, also invited the parties concerned in the education sector to integrate the government’s efforts towards the realization of the objective.

He complained about poverty and agony faced by the Almajiris due to the lack of care of the parents and dangers to which they are exposed on a daily basis

He also complained of the socio-cultural factors that hindered the integration of the Almajiris in the formal educational system such as the family role, social influence, poverty, domestic background and lack of finance.

According to him “other factors include; belief in religion, level of parental education, bad attitude, equal influence and perception constitutes another obstacle of integration of the Almajiris in the formal educational system at various levels”

Professor Olateye has formulated the following recommendations as a solution to the problem; β€œThat all identified socio-economic factors that influence the integration of the Almajiris in the formal educational system should be addressed by the government.

“This can be done through the campaign of public enlightenment and the supply of incentives. Adequate incentives should be provided by the government if they want almajiris to go to formal schools.

β€œThe government should help the Mallam to provide refuge and food for Almajiris in order to eradicate the almajiris imploration activities in society.

β€œRegular orientation should be given to Mallams on how to take care of the Almajiris in order to improve their well -being.

The deputy chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, in his welcome speech, reiterated the determination of his leadership not to rely on the pursuit of the supply of quality education.

He said that the series of inaugural lessons of the University is part of its academic tradition to show the intellectual capacity of the teachers from service and the celebration of academic activities.

The deputy chancellor promised that the institution would remain committed to advance the culture of the inaugural lesson.

Professor Akinwumi was of the opinion that the value of education in Nigeria should be improved on a regular basis

He praised the presenter of the 29th inaugural lesson, Professor Olatiee for the challenge of academic quality to deliver his topic and urged for the movement of the Nigeria educational system from complaint to consolation.
