The Ibaji Development Association, Lokoja branch, has commended the progress made by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo in Kogi State since he assumed office two years ago.
The association, in a statement made available to newsmen in Lokoja, said Ibaji Local Government Area is proud to associate itself with the Governor’s development progress in all sectors of the state, which has earned him several awards.
“We call for greater government presence in Ibaji Local Government to enhance its socio-economic activities and better living conditions for the people of the area
“We especially note that your infrastructural development cutting across various local government areas has become a turning point in the development of Kogi State
“We are aware of your efforts to improve the infrastructure landscape in Ibaji Local Government Area.
“In the health infrastructure sector, you are already tackling the construction and renovation of some key health centers in various wards of the municipality.
“Similarly, we are aware of your government’s efforts to provide solar energy to power several communities in Ibaji Local Government Area, as well as for the renovation of primary and secondary school buildings.
“The Association therefore commends your government for these noble achievements
“However, Ibaji Development Association, Lokoja branch, has keenly observed that these road facilities and other infrastructural facilities are almost absent in Ibaji Local Government Area of the state
“To date, the local government lacks good functional roads, health centers, good buildings for primary and secondary schools, as well as electricity, to name a few.
“We are aware of the meager financial base of the government, but with the bold move and prudent management of resources displayed by this government and its hunger for the development of Kogi State, especially in rural areas, the Ibaji Development Association is very optimistic about the government’s readiness to provide road infrastructure and other infrastructure services for Ibaji Local Government Area.
Road infrastructure in Ibaji
“The road infrastructure in Ibaji Local Government Area, to put it mildly, is truly pathetic.
“The Ibaji are predominantly farmers and have played an important role in the food security journey of the State
“Your Excellency Sir, the Association may recall that after the Twenty Twelve flood (2012) which completely destroyed the only motorable road linking Idah to Ibaji Local Government Headquarters; people have continuously faced difficulties in both human and vehicular movement in and out of Ibaji Local Government Area
“This has resulted, among other limitations, in increased maternal mortality, poor socioeconomic growth and the general well-being of people.
“Without a doubt, Your Excellency, sir, the road infrastructure in the life of any people certainly has a multiplier effect, indeed it is a sinquanon for the general development.
“However, we commend your government for undertaking an assessment of the Idah – Onyedega road and other secondary roads within the local government area.
“This particular effort has demonstrated your determination to provide the Ibaji people with road infrastructure.
“Our concern in this regard is that since after the assessment, in the month of September 2025 (2025), the work on the said road is yet to begin
“It would be recalled that since the APC government came into office in the state, Ibaji Local Government has remained a major stakeholder.
“We especially note that the present government led by His Excellency Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo came to power with the overwhelming vote of the Ibaji people, and we will continue to give the APC government in the state maximum support to enable it to succeed.
“Finally, Ibaji Development Association, Lokoja branch, is aware of your benevolence, especially in the appointment of Ibaji sons and daughters in your cabinet.
“We consider this as a precious favor done to our people, promising that they will not disappoint you.
“In light of the above, therefore, the Ibaji Development Association, Lokoja Branch, strongly appeals to the magnanimity of His Excellency to urgently come to the aid of the people of Ibaji Local Government Area, towards the rehabilitation, improvement and reconstruction of some important feeder roads for easy mobility of people throughout the local government area.
“As we await your kind response, our prayers are that Almighty Allah will continue to guide you and provide you with the wisdom and energy needed to take the affairs of Kogi State to the next level.
