Officers from the Department of State Services have arrested former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, on charges of certificate forgery, marking a new twist in the legal battle surrounding the former cabinet member.
PLATFORM TIMES reported that Nnaji was arrested on Wednesday at Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, as he prepared to board a private jet.
The arrest comes weeks after the Federal High Court in Abuja reportedly granted the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission an order to arrest the former minister following allegations that he failed to honor repeated invitations from investigators to probe the authenticity of his academic credentials.
The ICPC had told the court that Nnaji had repeatedly ignored summonses issued in relation to investigations into alleged forgery, abuse of office and related offences.
The court subsequently authorized his arrest and granted the anti-corruption agency permission to declare him wanted pending his arrest.
Nnaji, who resigned from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet in October 2025 amid controversy, has consistently denied any wrongdoing.
He had maintained that he was neither in hiding nor under investigation and had described reports of an arrest warrant as false and politically motivated.
At the time of filing this report, neither the DSS nor the ICPC had released an official statement detailing the circumstances of Wednesday’s arrest or indicating when the former minister would be arraigned.
