Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team, the D’Tigers, have been drawn in a highly competitive Group E for the next stage of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Africa Qualifiers, where they will face Cameroon, South Sudan, Cape Verde, Tunisia and Guinea.

The draw sets the stage for an important qualifying window, with Nigeria opening their campaign against long-time rivals Cameroon on August 27. The D’Tigers return to action the following day against South Sudan before completing their first qualifying window with a clash against Cape Verde on 30 August.

In the rest of the group, Guinea will face South Sudan while Tunisia will face Cape Verde on the opening day. On August 28, Cameroon will face Tunisia, with Cape Verde clashing with Guinea. The final round of matches on August 30 will see Guinea meet Cameroon, while Tunisia will face South Sudan.

Nigeria will draw confidence from their impressive head-to-head record against two of their opening opponents. The D’Tigers have won three of their previous four meetings with Cameroon and remain unbeaten against South Sudan, claiming victory in both meetings between the teams.

Cape Verde, however, has historically posed a tough challenge to Nigeria. The two nations have met six times, with the D’Tigers recording just one win, making the final match of the qualifying window a key fixture.

With qualification for the FIBA Basketball World Cup on the line, the D’Tigers will aim to make a strong start against Cameroon and South Sudan before looking to improve their record against Cape Verde in what promises to be a fiercely contested Group E campaign.
