Eight people were killed when suspected terrorists bombed a bridge in Niger

At least eight people were killed on Monday when their bus was hit by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted on a bridge by suspected terrorists in Niger State.

The terrorists had earlier destroyed a bridge located along Luma road, local government area of ​​Borgu state using IEDs.

Spokesman of the state police command, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident in a statement in Minna.

The statement read: “On March 23, 2026 at around 6.30am, a report received revealed that on the same date at around 2am, suspected terrorists inside the park forest used an explosive device and bombed a bridge located along Luma road, Borgu LGA, connecting Luma-Babana-Agwara communities.

“It is known that the bridge was damaged by thugs while carrying out security operations in the area.

“However, monitoring continues while clean-up operations are intensified.”
