Nigeria Mariam Eniola Bolaji, on Sunday, put in another excellent performance on the international stage, winning silver at the British & Irish Para-Badminton International 2026 in Ireland.
Bolaji put in an outstanding performance throughout the tournament, showing the resilience and fighting spirit that has made her one of the world’s leading para-badminton athletes.
In a close SL3 women’s singles final, she narrowly lost to Japan’s Shino Kawai, 21-18, 23-21, after pushing the match to the limit in a thrilling encounter.
Although the gold medal narrowly missed him, Bolaji’s silver medal is another important milestone in his impressive career and further strengthens Nigeria’s growing reputation on the world para-badminton stage. His perseverance at the highest level continues to inspire young athletes in Nigeria and Africa.
The Director General of the National Sports Commission, Hon Bukola Olopade, commended Bolaji for his discipline and excellence, while thanking the Badminton Federation, its coaches, support team, sponsors and all stakeholders whose dedication continues to contribute to Bolaji’s success.
The Director-General added that the Commission will continue to support Nigerian athletes to ensure that they are prepared for success at the national and international levels.
