The European Union (EU) is regulated to achieve technology companies, Meta (previously Facebook companies) with a fine of $ 1 billion on the ‘salary or approval’ model on Facebook, and Instagram.
The report said the European Commission was preparing to slam the meta with a fine because of the ‘salary or approval’ model on Facebook and Instagram that violated the Digital Market Law (DMA).
The company’s “payment or agreement” strategy for Facebook and Instagram advertisements, according to the regulator, limits consumer choices by requiring users to pay subscription fees or approve tracking of large -company data, which are claimed to violate the law of digital competition.

“Model” Payment or Approval “Meta may not provide a real alternative if the user does not approve, so it does not achieve the goal of preventing the accumulation of personal data by the gatekeeper,” the initial assessment of the European Commission from 2024 states.
With CEO Mark Zuckerberg and US government officials who have already objected to EU regulatory activities, Meta was anticipated to oppose the assessment, and if proven guilty, the punishment might exceed the amount of $ 1 billion reportedly.
Punishment that may occur after the company was beaten with a record fee of GDPR € 1.2 billion for insufficient data transfer protection and a fine of € 797.72 million to connect the Facebook Marketplace to its social media platform.
