The Ogun State Police Command recorded a total of 2,559 criminal cases across the state between January and March 2026, with theft and theft emerging as the most prevalent crimes, according to official crime statistics obtained by the command.
Data released by the Police Public Relations Department showed that 830 cases of theft and other theft-related crimes were reported during the period, placing the category at the top of the state’s crime rankings for the first quarter of the year.
The data also revealed a fluctuating crime pattern over the three months under review. January recorded the highest incidence with 922 cases, followed by March with 876 cases, while February recorded the lowest with 761 cases.
Assault-related crimes also featured prominently, with 532 cases documented between January and March. Related incidents of serious harm and injury accounted for 120 cases during the same period, underscoring persistent interpersonal violence across the state.
The report also indicated 269 cases of breach of the peace, along with another 262 crimes not specifically classified by the command. Fraud-related crimes continued to be a concern, with 217 cases of false accusations and fraud recorded in the three-month period.
In the most serious crime categories, the command recorded 46 cases of murder and seven cases of attempted murder, while manslaughter stood at two cases.
Armed robbery incidents were estimated at 37, with a total of eight kidnapping cases statewide. The data showed that armed robberies peaked in February with 15 incidents.
Sexual and gender-based crimes also feature in the report, with 13 cases of rape recorded, along with two cases of child theft and five cases classified as unnatural crimes.
Property crime remained significant, with 32 incidents of burglary and 56 incidents of trespassing. Other related crimes included 27 cases of burglary, 22 cases of unlawful possession and 17 cases of receiving stolen property. The cases of contamination amounted to 13.
The command also noted isolated incidents of human trafficking, livestock theft, arson, sectarianism, vandalism and ritual-related killings in the period under review.
An analysis of statistics showed a sharp increase in assault cases in March, which recorded 214 incidents, while crime data was collected from police divisional formations across the state and the State Criminal Investigation Department.
