The former Super Eagles coach, Sansia Siasia, has expressed concern about Nigeria’s few possibilities to qualify for the FIFA 2026 World Cup, stating that the national team would need nothing less than a miracle to reach the tournament.
In an exclusive interview with Brila.net, Siasia acknowledged that although it is mathematically possible, Nigeria’s route to the World Cup is now highly unlikely given its current position in the qualification classification.
“I think they would need a miracle, but at the end of the day, it is the fact that it sinks, right?” Siasia said without Rodeos.
“Then they have to go out and do their best, give them their best chance. Because as difficult as it is, nothing is impossible.”
Nigeria is currently in fifth in Group C of the African qualifiers, with only three points of four games, far behind the leaders Rwanda and South Africa.
Siasia explained the importance of the unity, urgency and commitment of the players and staff when the team regroups for the next round of qualifiers.
“You know, you have to talk to the players, talk to themselves.”
“They know what to do to win the last two games to qualify. Therefore, it will not be a walk in the park.”
“But if we all join, we have great players. It’s just for them to join and play as a team, they will score goals.”
“I think they have to win the rest of their games to qualify.”
Despite the difficult perspective, Siasia urged the team to remain serious, focused and determined:
“Everything is possible. It is the way you take care of yourself, the way you take seriously.”
“And if you want to win, you put your best foot and make sure you all play together and make it happen.”
“Nothing is impossible.”
Samson Siasia, who previously directed Nigeria’s U-23 team to La Plata Olympic in 2008 and administered the super eagles at various points, is still hopeful but realistic.
This pressure increases the current coach Eric Chelle and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to rescue the 2026 World Cup dream before it escapes.
