Focus Xi: Xi calls for concrete measures to modernize agriculture and rural areas

Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for concrete measures to promote the modernization of agriculture and rural areas.

Xi, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks during an inspection trip on Wednesday to Dezhou city in east China’s Shandong province.

Xi said that efforts need to be made to improve the overall production capacity, quality and performance of agriculture, ensure the stable supply of important agricultural products such as grains, build a beautiful and harmonious countryside where people can live and work according to local conditions, and guide farmers to create a better life through hard work and wisdom.

In Dongyujia Village, Xi learned about local grain harvesting, corn planting and agricultural supplies. He also went to agricultural land and had cordial exchanges with grain farmers, agricultural machinery operators and agricultural technicians.

Xi stressed that ensuring a stable supply of grains and other agricultural products is the top priority in agricultural production, underlining efforts to properly implement all grain production support policies to ensure a bumper harvest throughout the year.

Xi also called for efforts to improve agricultural infrastructure and strengthen agricultural prevention, mitigation and relief capacity.

Subsequently, Xi visited the nearby village of Xiyujia, where he inquired in detail about the improvement of local Party organizations and the provision of public services. It also featured a display of local agricultural products and related activities.

Xi expressed hope that Party organizations in villages will further exploit the leading role of Party building and achieve new results in building a beautiful and harmonious countryside for people to live and work.

At villager Yu Xinhui’s home, Xi sat down with the family to ask about their daily lives, including jobs, income, the health of elderly family members and the children’s education.

Xi said Party members and officials must do more to benefit people, provide tangible results for their well-being and address their difficulties, thereby strengthening their sense of accomplishment, happiness and security.

“We are about to celebrate the Party’s 105th birthday as July 1 approaches,” Xi said, stressing that the Party has united and led the Chinese people of all ethnic groups in achieving great achievements worthy of history and the people over the past 105 years.

“As we are marching on the new journey to transform China into a full-fledged modern socialist country, we must work together and keep pace in the new Long March to create a brighter future and continuously fulfill people’s aspirations for a better life,” Xi said. Xinhua
