Former Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Mahdi Aliyu-Gusau, has won the African Democratic Congress (ADC) gubernatorial primary election in the state.
Chairman of the ADC Governor’s Primary Election Committee, Mr. Namadi Musa. announced the results of Saturday’s primary election in Gusau.
Musa said Mahdi Aliyu-Gusau, son of General Aliyu Gusau (rtd), defeated two other candidates in the election.
The former deputy governor polled 35,665 votes to defeat Abdul’mutallab Ahmed-Mohammed with 15,922 votes, while Shehu Ahmed Musa secured 7,642 votes.

“Mahdi Aliyu-Gusau, after obtaining the most votes and complying with the guidelines of the 2026 Election Law and party requirements, is hereby declared the winner of the primary election,” said Musa.
He also announced Shehu Rafi as the party’s flag bearer for Zamfara North Senatorial District.
He declared Mr Atiku Abubakar-Saleh as the Zamfara West candidate and Mr Mika’ila Bello as the Zamfara Central Senatorial District candidate in the 2027 elections.
