“Girls Called Me “Ugly”—Don Jazzy reflects on self-confidence struggles

Nigerian music executive Michael Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, has spoken candidly about his long-standing struggle with self-confidence, tracing it back to his college days.

In an interview with media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on Bounce Radio, the Mavin Records founder revealed that the constant negative comments about his appearance significantly affected his self-esteem.

According to her, the female student’s repeated remarks describing her as unattractive left a deep impression and shaped the way she viewed herself for years.

“Girls used to call me ugly at university, and no one wanted to be my girlfriend. It affected my self-confidence, and that’s why I’m shy and have trouble speaking in public to this day,” he said.

Don Jazzy added that this experience continues to affect his personal life, considering that sometimes he finds it difficult to fully trust women’s expressions of love.

These revelations have sparked online conversations about the long-term impact of verbal criticism on self-esteem, even among highly successful public figures.
