The police inspector general, Kayode Egbetokun, accused three defendants before the high court of the Lagos state for alleged falsification, terrain taking and strong ownership acquisition in Ikeja.
Those accused include Julius Ediet, Al-Trade Agency Limited and Alabi Collins, director of the Federal Ministry for Housing Building and Urban Development. They are facing a position of 13 counts before the Oidowu judge of the upper court 55, Ikeja.
The disputed property is located in block C, plots 30 and 37, also known as n. 6 Ajisafe Street, Gra, Ikeja.
The prosecutor, Rotshang Dimka, told the Court that the case followed a July 1, 2024, petition by viagem Property and Investment Limited, who accused the defendants of illegal employment, mischievous damage and falsification of documents.
According to the petition, viagem has legally acquired the property of 9,425 square shorts in 2019 after several legal transfers dating back to 1961.
The company stated that in 2021, the defendants, supported by criminals and individuals who claimed to be police officers, have strongly evasted his staff and took possession of the earth.
According to reports, the police investigations showed that viagem and its predecessors, including Western Metal Products Company Limited (Wempco), had constantly paid accusations of soil use to the government of the state of Lagos. No record was found in support of the statement of the defendants according to which the land belonged to the federal government.
Judge Idowu updated the matter to Friday 12 September 2025, for further hearings. While Ediet was postponed to the Lagos State Police Command, Collins’s lawyer looked for an update for medical reasons.
