INEC will begin the third phase of voter registration on May 11

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced plans to implement the third phase of continuous voter registration (CVR) from May 11 to June 10, 2026.

Mohammed Haruna, INEC national commissioner and chairman of the voter information and education committee, who announced this on Tuesday said the date was due to adjustments to the schedule of key election activities.

According to him, “the final list must be ready for distribution by INEC to political parties 90 days before the election. We need sufficient time to integrate new registrants with old registrants,” he said.

As per INEC’s schedule for registration and display of voter lists, the third phase of the exercise was initially scheduled to begin on May 4, 2026.

INEC started the first phase of CVR on 18 August 2025 with online pre-registration, followed by face-to-face registration on 25 August.

Until the end of the first stage on December 10 2025, the KPU recorded 2,572,054 completed registrations nationally, consisting of 1,503,832 online registrations and 1,068,222 physical registrations.

The second phase began on January 5 and ended on April 17, with 3,748,704 registrations completed across the country.

The breaks between stages are used to carry out legal activities required by law, including displaying voter lists for demands and objections.

INEC has revised the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 elections following adjustments to the statutory timetable governing pre-election and election activities introduced in the 2026 Elections Law.
