Insecurity: Wike warns owners of hotels, event centers and others against illegal activities

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, has warned owners of event centres, hotels and other public buildings in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to stop offering their facilities for use by illegal organisations.

Wike noted that land allotments in the FCT were strictly for carrying out legitimate activities, adding that “in the future, the ownership documents of any event centre, hotel or public building used for the gathering of illegal organizations will be revoked.”

This is contained in a statement released on Friday by the Senior Special Assistant to the Minister for Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.

The statement reads in part: “In view of the need to further ensure the safety of lives and property in the FCT and to support the efforts of security agencies in this regard, the use of event centres, hotels and other public buildings will now be closely monitored.

“The goal is to ensure that they are not used by illegal organizations for rallies capable of disrupting the peace of the nation’s capital.

“Owners of these facilities are therefore advised to familiarize themselves with the legality of organizations seeking to use their facilities and the purpose before allowing them out.”

Continuing, it reads: “For example, in this political season, owners of event centers and hotels in particular must ensure that they only deal with the recognized leadership of political parties by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding the use of their facilities, and adequate records of transactions must be kept.

“Failure to comply with this directive will result in the revocation of title deeds to such properties.”
