What I know is the Israelites already believed in a God (the almighty God) and on their journey from Egypt they got to a place and felt tired like there God has forsaken them which therefore they made idols which they started to worship and then God gave Moses the 10 commandments which includes 'thy should not worship any other gods'
About the belief discussion,
It doesn't make sense logically, U haven't been created when all the bible events took place. That's why U believe
