Women was advised to embrace digital literacy as a road to optimize their economic potentials.
Expert made an appeal to a seminar organized by the International Center for Regional Integration and Trade Research (Icritr), Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka on Friday.
The theme of the seminar was “accelerating the action for women on the market using technology”.
An ICT specialist, Prof. Ikechukwu Onyenwe, said that information and communication technology (ICT) has unlimited opportunities that women could exploit in an attempt to create their economic aspirations.
Onyenwe asked for the promotion of digital literacy among women, adding that the digital space offered so many opportunities for the acquisition of those skills that were of great demand and also created economic opportunities.
The guest speaker highlighted Amazon, Alibaba and Ebay as women who may want to go to trading could explore.
According to him, there are many digital platforms for women to acquire skills including coding, data analysis, graphic design, online trading and so on.
“The Nnamdi Azikiwe University has signed an agreement for the creation of a silicon hub aimed at exposing students to various skills based on their passions, talents and fields.
“It is very important for students to take advantage of this opportunity to enhance himself,” he said.
The director of the Techquest Stem Academy, dr. Itoro Emembolu, said that women should be encouraged and authorized to embrace digital trading.
Erembolu, who held Keynote’s speech said that women should guarantee their interest and current skills aligned with emerging trends, including digital innovations.
“We must align our interventions to their interests, there is no area of interest that you will not find an online course relevant to follow or at least a physical training program at Innovation Hubs,” he said.
Previously in his welcome address, the director of the ICritr, Prof. Ngozi Egbuna, said that the belly organized the event as part of his contribution to the economic progress of women.
Egbuna said that the focus of any intervention should be on accessibility, the acquisition of skills and the removal of barriers relating to culture, family, disinformation and computer security.
“The speakers of international reputation were invited to reflect on opportunities, challenges, barriers and intervention strategies as it concerns the embrace of the women of technology.
“As a center, the icritr is working on a platform in which people can market their products digitally,” he said.
Prof. Michael Ezenwa, the dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, appreciated the director of the Center and his team for the organization of the seminary while asking for his sustenance.
Ezenwa said that it is necessary to appreciate the role of women in the lives of individuals and society as they were a special species in terms of resilience, talent and multitasking.
He advised women to be aware of the need to balance their career activities with their responsibilities in the domestic front, since it was fundamental
