President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Kaduna State to celebrate the campaign of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The President was received by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani and other party leaders ahead of the planned rally at the Kaduna Municipality Stadium. Project reports
The event is expected to bring together governors, ministers, members of the National Assembly, party officials, political stakeholders and APC supporters from different parts of the country.
The slowdown in the campaign marks the beginning of the ruling party’s efforts to mobilize support for Tinubu’s re-election bid and strengthen its political structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Supporters converge on Kaduna
Political activities intensified in Kaduna metropolis ahead of the rally as supporters arrived from different parts of the country to attend the event.
Many supporters were seen wearing APC branded T-shirts, caps and other campaign materials bearing images of Tinubu, Shettima and Governor Uba Sani.
The meeting is expected to provide a platform for the party’s leadership to engage its supporters, strengthen mobilization efforts and communicate its priorities ahead of the elections.
A solidarity march organized by the leadership of the APC Presidential Campaign Council support group on Friday moved through parts of Kaduna metropolis before proceeding to Government House where Governor Uba Sani received the delegation.
The march, led by Silas Agara, head of the support group’s leadership, was part of activities aimed at building momentum ahead of the presidential campaign flag.
Agara stressed the importance of coordinating support groups and encouraging them to communicate the party’s policies and programs to voters.
Strengthen security measures
Security measures have been beefed up in Kaduna ahead of the presidential visit, with personnel deployed at strategic locations and on main roads leading to the rally site.
Preparations involved security agencies at state and federal levels, with measures put in place to manage expected crowds and maintain order at the event.
Deputy Governor Hadiza Balarabe, who chairs the local organizing committee, said the committee consulted security officials as part of preparations for the rally.
He explained that the arrangements included screening participants before entering the stadium and inspecting facilities to ensure the venue was ready to welcome participants.
Preparations also included seating arrangements, waiting areas and other facilities necessary for the event.
Posters, banners and billboards with images of the President and other APC leaders were displayed at prominent locations in the metropolis, especially along the routes leading to the stadium.
The state government highlights preparations
The Kaduna state government said preparations were being made to receive party leaders and supporters who are expected to attend the rally.
Information and Culture Commissioner Ahmed Maiyaki said mobilization was underway ahead of the event and revealed that hotels and service apartments across the metropolis had seen strong demand.
He also highlighted federal projects and initiatives involving Kaduna State, including the conversion of the Federal College of Education Zaria into a university, the proposed conversion of the Kaduna Polytechnic into a federal university of technology, the Mando-Birnin Gwari road project and the proposed Kaduna light rail project.
The projects were part of the state government’s account of its relationship with the federal government and the benefits it said accrued to the state.
The campaign is also expected to provide the APC with an opportunity to present its achievements in government and outline its priorities as the country approaches another general election.
The political significance of Kaduna
The choice of Kaduna for the end of the election campaign places the North West at the center of the APC’s early mobilization efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The region is politically significant due to its large electorate and the role its states play in national elections.
Kaduna also remains a major electoral battleground. In the 2023 presidential election, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party defeated Tinubu in the state, making it one of the areas where the APC will look to expand its support base.
