JB Unity Cup 2026: Shangz FC is crowned champion and Heyfash FA finishes third

Shangz FC emerged champions of the 2026 JB Unity Cup Tournament after defeating New Stars FC 1-0 in a closely contested final played at Onibukun Primary School, Ota, Ogun State.

The month-long grassroots football competition, sponsored by JB Hotel and Suites under the leadership of its CEO, Jeremiah Adenuga, brought together some of the best community football teams in and around Ota, providing a platform for young talent to showcase their skills.

A total of 24 teams participated in the tournament, with 40 matches played between May 2 and 28, 2026, making it one of the largest grassroots football events in the Ota area.

Shangz FC’s title-winning campaign was built on consistency, discipline and attacking talent. The eventual champions recorded impressive victories throughout the tournament, including a commanding 4-1 semi-final win over Ota Central FC before overcoming New Stars FC in the final to lift the coveted trophy.

New Stars FC also enjoyed a notable run to the championship match, overcoming strong rivals along the way, including a penalty shootout victory over Heyfash FA in the semi-finals. However, in the finals they came up short against a determined Shangz team.

In the third place playoff, Heyfash FA won the bronze medal after defeating Ota Central FC 3-2 in an entertaining match. Heyfash FA were among the tournament’s standout performers, producing some of the most impressive attacking displays of the competition, including a 5-2 win over Ota Central FC early in the tournament and a dominant 3-1 quarter-final win over Akmus FC.

The successful organization of the tournament highlighted the growing importance of grassroots football development in Ogun State. Much of the success of the tournament is due to the support of JB Hotel and Suites and its CEO, Jeremiah Adenuga, whose sponsorship made the competition possible.

The tournament attracted soccer enthusiasts, coaches and community leaders, while providing young players with valuable exposure and competitive experience.

Organizers praised the sponsor for investing in youth development through sport and expressed optimism that future editions of the JB Unity Cup will continue to grow in stature and impact.
