Jimrawa residents protest in Gusau criticize governor Lawal for neglecting the problem of security during the holidays abroad

The residents of the city of Jimrawa, in the area of the local government of Kauran Namoda, in the state of Zamfara, organized a new protest in Gusau, accusing the governor Dauda Lawal of neglecting the worsening of the security crisis in their community during the holidays abroad.

The inhabitants of the village, mostly farmers, have been displaced from their homes for almost two years due to persistent attacks by armed bandits.

In a declaration signed on behalf of the residents, Muhammed Ibrahim Jimrawa, said that “our agricultural land, now fully occupied by the criminals, remain inaccessible also in the middle of the rainy season – a crucial period for agricultural activities.

“This is our second demonstration in state capital within weeks.

“During the first, we received insurance from the governor’s spokesman, Mustapha Jafaru Kaura, who would have been taken quick measures to restore peace and allow their safe return.”

However, nothing has been done by that promise, and repeated attempts to obtain an update were welcomed with silence. We were shocked when, according to him, Kaura revealed that the governor was on vacation in London.

He said: “The revelation fueled public anger, with the demonstrators who accused Lawal of severe insensitivity and abandoning his duties while thousands of citizens remain displaced and risk.

“We are suffering here, sleeping in fear, while relaxing abroad,” he said.

He claims that the accident reflects a wider disconnection model between the government of the state of Zamfara and its people. They indicate the inability of the Administration to give priority to the safety, rehabilitation and well -being of displaced communities.

Jimrawa warned that without decisive actions, the displacement in the rural areas of Zamfara could worsen, threatening both the means of subsistence and food safety in the region.
