Kachikwu welcomed the court’s ruling on the ADC convention

The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in 2023: electricity, Mr Dumebi Kachikwu, has welcomed the decision of the Federal High Court canceling the congress and convention conducted by the party faction.

Kachikwu, who spoke at a press conference on Wednesday, said the decision reaffirms that the ADC is “not for sale” and shows that the party has resisted attempts by some individuals to take over its structures.

“I have long warned that the African Democratic Congress is not for sale and that those who seek to take over the party through unconstitutional means will be given a way out.

“With this decision, it is clear that these efforts have failed miserably,” he said.

He described the cancellation of the congress as unlawful, and said the court’s characterization of the exercise underscored the gravity of the violation.

According to him, this decision should have a deterrent effect on individuals who want to weaken the party structure for personal gain.

Kachikwu added that the party leadership would formally communicate the decision to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and announce plans to hold a national convention.

“We will inform INEC of the decision and propose a date and venue for the convention. The media will also be informed,” he added.

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Wednesday annulled the congress and convention conducted by the faction led by former Senate President, David Mark.

The judge also barred INEC from recognizing or participating in any congress held by the disputed interim leadership.

Judge Abdulmalik further prohibited the faction from interfering in the functions and terms of office of the elected state executive.
