Suspected kidnappers have released the body of former Jigawa Abba federal lawmaker Anas Adamu after his family paid $50 million in ransom.

Adamu, an African Democratic Congress leader, and his associate Ali Tukur Gantsa were kidnapped on the Abuja-Kaduna highway several weeks ago while traveling from Kano to Abuja for a political meeting.

Family sources said the gunmen initially asked for $200 million, later reduced to $100 million, before settling for $50 million. They reportedly dumped Adamu’s body on the outskirts of Jere after negotiations.

According to a family source, Adamu, who suffered from asthma and hypertension, died in captivity after going without medication for days. His health has deteriorated due to the stress of captivity, the source said.

Announcement

Gantsa remains alive and was with Adamu’s body traveling to Kano while burial preparations are made.

The Jigawa ADC has yet to make an official statement.
