The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State has called for the immediate suspension of former Kogi West senator, Dino Melaye, following his recent statement that the party is “dead”.
In a statement issued on Sunday, PDP elders in the state led by Alhaji Ibrahim Dansofo asked the party’s executive committee in the state to initiate the process of suspending Melaye, citing the need to restore the integrity of the party and focus on proper leadership.
They condemned Melaye’s outburst, saying his political ambitions had been “destroyed” and he had become a “burden” on the party.
“Melaye’s political ambitions have been shattered to the point that he can no longer secure a local council position.

“Senator Melaye has become a burden to the party. His accusations against the current leadership are hypocritical, as he himself was given the governorship ticket despite the party’s awareness of his inability to win the primary election,” the statement read.
The Kogi PDP has blamed Melaye for the party’s current predicament, claiming that his nomination was a big mistake that led to the party’s current predicament.
The party has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to re-evaluate their support for Melaye, urging them to distance themselves from someone they described as a “slave” and a “big burden” on the party.
The move is seen as an attempt to discipline Melaye and restore order within the party, ahead of the upcoming general elections. The suspension process is expected to begin soon, pending a formal investigation into Melaye’s actions.
