The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) states that it will begin to take possession of the 4,794 properties revoked on the non -payment of the rent to the ground between 10 and 43 years of Monday.
Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant of the Minister of Public Communications and Social Media FCT, revealed it in a press conference in Abuja on Friday.
The Nigeria (Nan) news agency recalls that the FCTA had announced the revocation of 4,794 land titles on the non -payment of the rent on the ground for more than 10 years on March 17.
The Administration explained that the action violated the terms and conditions of granting employment rights, in line with the provisions of section 28, subsections 5 (a) and (b) of the law on the use of soil.
The FCT, however, gave the 21 -day grace to the prisoners of the title, who failed in the payment of the rent on the ground for one and 10 years, after which the titles concerned would have been revoked.
On March 19, the FCTA also announced its decision to take possession of properties built on 4,794 securities revoked in due course.
Olayinka told journalists at the press conference that the 4,794 properties were among the 8,375 owners of properties due to the administration of FCT N6.97 billion as rent on the ground.
He said that the revoked titles were located in the central area, Garki I and II, Wuse I and II, Asakoro, Maitama and Guzape Districts.
He explained that the property had already returned to the FCTA, adding that from Monday the FCTA would start exercising its ownership rights on the terrestrial properties concerned.
“As usual, this will be done without consideration regarding the ownership of the terrestrial properties concerned. It will be purely in line with the existing laws and regulations that guide the process.
“It is important to say that the payment of the rent on the ground on land properties in the FCT is based on the existing legislation.
“It is clearly foreseen in the terms and in the conditions of granting the right of employment, and is due for the payment on the first day of January, every year, without a question,” he said.
In addition, the director of development control, Mukhtar Galadima, explained that the properties concerned would be sealed and limited access starting from Monday.
Galadima added that the FCTA would have decided what to do with the properties concerned after taking possession in due course.
For his part, the director of the Earth, FCTA, Chijioke Nwankwoeze, explained that the FCTA was filling in registers of compliance with the 21 -day grace that they gave to those who failed for 10 years and lower.
Nwankwoeze said that the FCTA would act accordingly, as soon as the registers were fully completed and analyzed.
Responding to the statements that some affected people brought the matter to court, the director said that there was no judicial decision on the revocation.
“As such, the FCTA is not limited to the unloading of its legitimate functions on the properties concerned,” he said.
