Liverpool beats Ipswich to record first EPL win

Liverpool claimed their first Premier League win of the 2026/27 season with a 2-0 victory over newly promoted Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Friday.

Swedish striker Alexander Isak scored both goals in a quick early double (in the 6th and 9th minutes), both assisted by Cody Gakpo.

This gave new manager Andoni Iraola his first league win after the Reds opened the campaign with consecutive 2-2 draws.

The first goal came in the sixth minute, after Milos Kerkez gained possession near the halfway point and found Gakpo, who fed Isak; The former Newcastle United striker took a touch and shot at the near post past goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen.

Three minutes later, Isak scored his second goal to make it 2-0. Gakpo delivered another excellent pass to Isak, who beat defender Jacob Greaves and finished with his left foot inside the near post.

High-profile summer signing from Paris Saint-Germain, Bradley Barcola, came on around the 64th minute as a substitute (replacing Víctor Muñoz in some reports).

The French international showed Reds fans what to expect, showing flashes of pace and skill in the minutes he played.

For Liverpool, the victory against Ipswich provides relief, confidence and offensive momentum ahead of the midweek Champions League match against Atlético Madrid and the upcoming Premier League match against Fulham, both at Anfield.
