MURIC To ICPC: Violation of El-Rufai’s rights is deplorable ‎ – THIS UPDATE

The Muslim Rights Concern organisation, MURIC, has adopted the attitude of officials of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) who prevented one of the wives of former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, from giving food to her husband while he was in their custody.

El-Rufai’s son, Hon. Mohammed Bello El-Rufai also confirmed the allegation.

‎Reacting to this development, Executive Director Professor Ishaq Akintola on Monday described the situation as deplorable, unjustifiable and unacceptable.

“We are in possession of a viral video in which one of the wives of the former governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, accuses the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) of preventing her from giving food to her husband,” he said, adding that “El-Rufai’s son, Hon Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, has also confirmed the allegation.”

‎Akintola said that if this were true, it would mean that the ICPC is using starvation as a weapon to force Mallam El-Rufai to do things against his free will.

“This is a Gestapo tactic. It constitutes a blatant violation of the fundamental human rights granted by Allah to El-Rufai. It is deplorable, unjustifiable and unacceptable.

‎”Nigerians will not accept Gestapo treatment by the ICPC or any government agency in any form.

‎”It is therefore mandatory that the ICPC speaks openly on the matter. We need urgent explanations. Does the ICPC intend to deprive El-Rufai of food? Do they intend to starve him? Or is the ICPC’s “food choice” for El-Rufai on the table and for which cassu belli?

“Whichever way the pendulum swings, nothing must happen to El-Rufai. Nigerians saw him fit as a fiddle the day he walked into the EFCC office to surrender. His family doctor knows about his health condition. El-Rufai must not develop any strange ailment in the ICPC facility.

‎”MURIC calls on the media and civil society to speak openly about the ongoing tribulations of Mallam El-Rufai. It is a duty to do so and it is an abandonment to look the other way. Posterity will judge which side you stand on”
