Nasarawa 2027: SDP takes on radio owner over human rights

The electoral organization of Mohammad Abubakar Adamu, Nasarawa State candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has accused the owner of Brekete Family Radio, Ahmed Isa, popularly known as the Ordinary Chairman, of falling short over his recent comment on the former Inspector General of Police (IGP).

Director of Digital Media and Strategic Communications, Otaru Douglas, said this in a statement to journalists in Lafia on Friday.

He said the organization had noticed a video being circulated, in which Ahmed Isa praised the state governor and condemned Adamu’s recent empowerment program for farmers in the state.

The elections board described the commentary broadcast on Human Rights Radio 101.1 FM as a worrying smear campaign and dangerous propaganda.

“It was disappointing to see the owner of Brekete Family and Human Rights Radio 101.1, Ahmed Isa, popularly known as the Ordinary President, go below par in his recent commentary,” the statement read.

The organization lambasted Isa’s criticism of the Adamu agricultural empowerment programme, which involved the distribution of fertilizers and modern agricultural implements to over 5,000 farmers in the West and North Nasarawa senatorial zones in the first and second phases.

He said the gesture, supported by other public-spirited individuals, aimed to complement food security efforts and improve rural livelihoods.

He added that questioning the source of funds of a man who served meritoriously and rose to the pinnacle of the Nigeria Police Force was biased.

“What makes the broadcast more worrying is the context. Seeing the images circulating of the founder of the radio station in the company of the state governor leaves no doubt that he is on the payroll of the APC-led government,” the statement read.

He called on the public to ignore what he called “senseless insults” and focus on the real issues affecting the state, including farm insecurity, collapsing rural infrastructure and youth unemployment.

He, therefore, advised the Brekete Family host to “first shine his searchlight on the Kogi State Government” before crossing the borders.
