By Ndahi Inusa, Maiduguri

Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial District, has brought to the attention of the Borno military leadership the safe return of abducted schoolchildren Lassa and Musa and travelers to Biu.

Ndume made the call yesterday when he paid a courtesy call on the newly deployed Theater Commander, Operation HADIN KAI, Major General Ibikunle Ajose, at Maimalari Military Cantonment, Maiduguri.

The meeting, held behind closed doors, focused on security issues affecting Borno and the entire North East, with the safe recovery of those kidnapped among the Senator’s immediate concerns.

He recalled that over 40 pupils/students were abducted in Mussa, and after a few weeks, another abduction of over 30 students was abducted in Lassa, in addition to a road ambush by terrorists along Biu-Buratai-Buni Yadi where some passengers, including a child, were abducted since February 2026, without any information on their whereabouts.

Speaking after the meeting, Ndume commended the Nigerian Army for its continued efforts in tackling insecurity and urged the troops to intensify ongoing efforts towards the safe and successful recovery of schoolchildren from Lassa and Musa and Biu-bound passengers.

“The army is to be praised. Alhamdulillah, the security situation is improving. Most of what we discussed will not be disclosed because they are security matters, but certainly the safe release of schoolchildren Lassa and Musa and travelers Biu is my priority for now.”

The Senator also highlighted the strategic importance of major roads linking Borno South, including the Gombe-Biu and Damboa-Maiduguri roads, stressing that he has consistently supported their construction and improvement due to their importance to security, commerce and movement of people.

Ndume, former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, also welcomed the recent pay increase for military personnel approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing it as an important step towards improving the well-being and motivation of members of the armed forces.

He said improving personnel wellbeing would complement the sacrifices made by troops to protect communities across the country.

Earlier, Major General Ajose had described Ndume as a friend of the military and said the Senator’s visit provided an opportunity to discuss security issues affecting the North East.

He appreciated Ndume for consistently prioritizing the safety and well-being of his constituents and assured that the military would continue to build on its successes in the ongoing fight against insecurity.
