As part of efforts to promote mental wellbeing and improve road safety, the Nelo Dreams Foundation, in collaboration with the RiFC Foundation, will host a targeted men’s mental health awareness program for commercial drivers, tricycle operators and motorcyclists in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The programme, themed “Lead with your mind, not just your hands”, will take place on Friday, June 12, 2026 at Galadimawa Park, Abuja, starting from 10am.
The initiative, with the slogan “Strong mind, safe road”, is designed to address the often overlooked mental health challenges faced by transport operators, including stress, road rage, financial pressure and emotional isolation.
According to organizers, the initiative aims to reduce the stigma surrounding men’s mental health by creating a safe environment where participants can openly discuss emotional and psychological challenges without fear of being judged.
The program will also focus on developing practical coping skills through training in stress management, anger control, emotional regulation and resilience techniques based on social-emotional learning (SEL) principles.
Speaking about the importance of the initiative, the organizers highlighted that mental well-being is directly linked to safer roads and better decision-making among motorists.
“No one checks the driver’s mental state before he gets behind the wheel,” organizers said.
“This session aims to equip the men who move our city with the same skills we teach in the classroom: self-awareness, self-control and healthy relationships.”
The initiative will further connect participants with accessible mental health resources and peer support networks, while highlighting the role of emotional well-being in community safety and well-being.
The day’s activities will include group discussions, interactive SEL exercises, and the distribution of pocket toolkits containing quick reaction strategies for drivers to apply while on duty.
Organizers expressed confidence that the initiative will not only improve the mental well-being of transport operators, but will also help reduce accidents and promote a culture of safer and responsible road use across Abuja.
The program is expected to attract commercial drivers, tricycle operators, motorcyclists, transport union leaders and mental health advocates from across the FCT.
