PRP presented a return certificate to Donald Duke

The People’s Redemption Party (PRP) on Wednesday issued certificates of return to its presidential candidate, Donald Duke, and other candidates who won in the party’s recent primaries.

In his remarks at the event, the party’s National Chair, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, said the development marked an important milestone for the party, as it positions itself as the main ideological alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He congratulated the candidates and reminded them that they are ambassadors of the country.

He drew a sharp line between what he called the PRP’s transparent internal processes and the chaotic primaries that often occur in competing mainstream political parties.

“The PRP has just placed itself at the heart of a fundamental imperative: to inspire confidence and resolve in Nigerians to heal our country from leaders who have succeeded in turning our dreams into nightmares,” said Baba-Ahmed.

According to him, a political party cannot lack justice internally and miraculously deliver justice to the wider Nigerian society.

“Today, we send a message to our fellow Nigerians that the journey towards a different and happier future is not an illusion,” he added.

The PRP chairman praised Duke’s intelligence, vision, integrity and uncompromising commitment to the public interest.

He said the political career of the former governor of Cross River State served as a blueprint on how power should be exercised and unleashed in a healthy democracy.

“He stands as a testament to the fact that not all Nigerian leaders seek public office for personal gain; that leaders can serve and move to meet other challenges in life; that Nigeria is worthy of serving in all capacities.

“He stands tall as a true Nigerian whose life was shaped by all elements of our rich and abundant nation,” Baba-Ahmed concluded.

In his acceptance speech, Duke described his candidacy as a rescue mission for “a country struggling itself to the detriment of its citizens.”

He stated that the main function of government had basically been perverted by the ruling elite who viewed power only as a tool to enrich themselves.

“In fact, we have lost focus; political gangsters and robbers have laid siege and seized the land and made it barren.

“Then they weaponize the poverty they caused, and every four years, they return to renew their mandate to heap the profits of this province onto our tired shoulders.

“This time, it’s the people’s bandits, not their bandits.” Duke said.
