Syrian new transitional government has been launched – almost four months after the fall of the Assad regime.

The formation of the new government marked an important milestone after the decade of the Assad family government ended in December last year.

He has promised to form an inclusive transition government and has faced pressure to keep the promise from Western and Arab countries.

On Saturday, a cabinet consisting of 23 new government members was announced.

Among those announced were Hind Kajawat, a Christian woman and activist who opposed Assad since the conflict began in March 2011, and who would serve as Minister of Social and Labor Affairs.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Yosr Bernieh was named the Minister of Finance Syria in the new government.

Both Murhaf Abu Qasra and Asaad Al Shibani will remain in their role as Minister of Defense and Foreign Affairs.

They both served in the previous guard government after the fall of the Assad regime.

Mr Sharaa, who was named a temporary president in January, said his government would run the country until the next election set, which he said could take up to five years to be held.

Syria issued a constitutional declaration while earlier this month, which maintains a central role for Islamic law and guarantees women’s rights and freedom of expression.
