Nigeria beat Mozambique to End poor run in Friendlies – Latest Sports News In Nigeria

The Super Eagles of Nigeria ended October’s international window with a hard fought victory over Mozambique, on Monday.

Nigeria, at the Estadio Municipal De Albufeira Portimao, edged the Mozambique 3-2 to end their winless run in friendly games.

Geny Catamo set the ball rolling with early goal for the Mambas after Francis Uzoho and his defender made a mess of a low cross into the box.

The Eagles responded well and scored three times just before the half-time whistle.

French-based forward, Terem Moffi leveled the game before Frank Onyeka doubled the advantage with his first international goal for the three-time African Champions.

Moses Simon then got the third from the spot, to give Nigeria a comfortable lead going into the break against Mozambique who had a player sent off.

Faisal Bangal pulled one back for Mozambique in the second-half, but Jose Peseiro’s team held on for their first International friendly win since March 2019 – a run of 15 winless games.

Next for the Super Eagles is the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in November.
