Nigerian military probe explosion in defense equipment manufacturers

The Defense Headquarters (DHQ) has begun an investigation into a Saturday explosion at the Nigerian Defense Industry Company (DICON) in the State of Kaduna.

Director of Defense Information, Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, revealed this in a statement in Abuja.

One person was killed and several others suffered injuries in the explosion that occurred in the Dicon Ordnance factory disposal hole on Saturday.

The spokesman noted that the explosion occurred during the destruction of expired weapons, including ammonium nitrate, primary cover, propellage, and other dangerous substances.

He added that the injured people received treatment at 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospitals, Kaduna.

“DHQ has ordered a thorough investigation to ascertain the direct cause of the incident and to prevent recurrence,” said Gusau.

Dicon is a Nigerian government -owned company responsible for the defense material manufacturing for the State Armed Forces and security agencies.
