President Bola Tinubu, on Thursday in Abuja, reiterated his commitment to building a stable, peaceful and prosperous nation, assuring that the well-being of Nigerians remains his utmost priority.
He said political and economic structures that have long undermined the prosperity of Nigerians are constantly being replaced through the realignment of the economy to enable full participation.
Receiving a delegation of Renewed Hope Ambassadors led by Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State at State House, President Tinubu pledged to support reforms to create greater opportunities for poor and vulnerable citizens.
The event was also attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima and the National President of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, together with numerous governors: Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), Mohammed Inuwa (Gombe), Nasir Idris (Kebbi), Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Usman Ododo (Kogi), Abiodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), Monday Okpebholo (Edo) and Uba Sani (Kaduna), who is also the Deputy Director General of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors.
A number of former governors attended, including Aminu Bello Masari (Katsina), Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta) and Tanko Almakura (Nasarawa), as well as former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, National Secretary of the APC, Zonal Coordinators of Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Directors and the Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs, Ibrahim Masari.
President Tinubu stressed that the more citizens participate in shaping their own lives and futures, the better society will be for generations to come.
He urged the Ambassadors of Renewed Hope to continue to raise awareness and mobilize citizens, especially at the grassroots level, on the government’s efforts to improve their livelihoods through economic reforms.
“You represent the conscience of a nation that wants to break the chains of poverty and desperation,” he said.
President Tinubu assured that the administration will uphold the principles of democracy, including the rule of law, separation of powers and the rights of all citizens.
“We cannot submit to disobedience to a legitimate court order; we must embrace the judiciary, whether it favors us or not. We submit to this principle of democracy, separation of powers and understanding the dynamics of it, and the nation that is Nigeria, that we must build a country. That is what Renewed Hope means. You have to give them that hope.”
“There is no other path for us to achieve national greatness than to build a common vision for the progress and prosperity of our people. This is what we must do,” he said.
He reiterated that his government is guided by a clear vision to promote inclusive growth, create opportunities for youth and ensure that every Nigerian, regardless of background or region, has a stake in the country’s future.
He encouraged citizens not to be discouraged by the misinformation promoted by opposition elements in the country.
He said the great achievements witnessed in modern times have been achieved through visionary leadership, ensuring that Nigeria is in safe hands.
To the opposition, he said: “Do they want to scare me? It’s a lie. I’ve been down this road before. And if I have to come back again and again and again, I will do the same thing. There is no better place than your country. And no one can build it except you. We have seen great things, skyscrapers. We wonder how the plane takes off and takes us from one destination to another. There was no magic of yesterday. It is the thinker of tomorrow and the future who can elevate our lives, who can reform us all.
“And being the transformational leaders that you are, you are in good company. Don’t be afraid. I have listened to you. I have not had to look back on the economy because the truth is that I have taken over myself. The late Buhari was me. He was my partner. What if I took over from him. Isn’t it my fault? So if something is wrong, it’s okay. Live with it, fix it, move on. The journey of life will not be easy. I can only stand before you and say you will not regret it. That’s why we ask you to renew their hope. They don’t want to see the hope, the roads, the bridges, the children we raise, the economy we are growing, we will lend them Jigi-Bola glasses.
Addressing the Ambassadors of Renewed Hope, President Tinubu promised to be their biggest supporter.
“We act as one family. You represent one conscience, one nation that wants to break the chains of poverty, ignorance and despair. You are in good company. That is all I can say. And all I can promise is that I will not give up.”
Earlier, the Director General of Renewed Hope Ambassadors (RHA) and the Governor of Imo State, Sen. Hope Uzodinma, said they were at the State House to update the President on the progress made so far.
“Our purpose in coming is to inform Mr. President of how far we have come with this national assignment, to present the substance of the work already done and to reaffirm that the structure you have kindly created is not only alive but active, coordinated and is already creating measurable political and civic dividends across the nation.
«At the regional level, the activities have begun in earnest, all the structures of all the local authorities have been inaugurated, as well as in the electoral offices.
“We have started the enumeration process down to the electoral unit level. We continuously collect data during registration, taking messages to markets, schools and professional groups, women’s platforms and religious and grassroots political structures,” said Governor Uzodinma.
He commended President Tinubu for his determined leadership and assured him of his loyalty and commitment to the success of the office.
The North West Zonal Coordinator of Ambassadors of Renewed Hope and former Governor of Katsina State, Aminu Bello Masari, commended the courage and political sagacity of the President, describing him as a tenacious reformer despite initial difficulties encountered.
“We know very well that reformers always find things extremely difficult at the beginning. Especially, if you reform in a society that is very difficult to understand, and some are willing to make people not understand,” Masari said.
Masari praised the president for undertaking tough but necessary reforms that leaders before him could not, saying Nigeria has improved because of it.
He assured the President that most political heavyweights in the North West geopolitical zone are solidly behind the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying the fight for a better Nigeria is everyone’s.
He assured that the leaders of the North West have decided to tour the numerous federal projects in the area to raise greater awareness among citizens.
“You have done a lot, Mr President, but don’t allow yourself to be distracted by those who make noise. Your criticisms are not just about you. Even your detractors know that you have done well.
“Is someone going to come tomorrow and say they’re going to reverse the removal of fuel subsidies or take the country back to multiple exchange rates?” Masari said.
The National President of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, has lauded President Tinubu for the infrastructure revolution across the nation, made possible by his administration’s numerous reform programmes, as attested by state governors.
Former Governor Okowa, former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim, Governors Uba Sani and Biodun Oyebanji also brought messages of goodwill to the meeting.
