No law criminals Dreadlocks, tattoos, colored hair – Ogun Cp

The police commissioner of the State of Ogun, Cp Lere Ogunlowo, said that sporty dreadlocks, colored hair or tattoos does not make an individual a criminal, affirming with emphasis that no section of the Nigerian constitution criminalizes such appearances.

Ogunlowo made it known during a special interactive session labeled “Time Out with Emewcasters”, organized by the Chapter of the Ogun State of the Freelance Association and of the independent broadcasters of Nigeria (Fiban), held in Abokuta, the state capital.

During the questions on the field by media professionals and interested parties, the CP warned against the profiling of people based on the aspect, stating that it is against the ethics of the professional police and the law.

“There is no section of our Constitution that Dreadlocks criminals, colorful tattoos or hair. These are not crime indicators and we must go beyond such stereotypes,” said Ogunlowo.

He also reassured the students throughout the state of Ogun of the commitment of the command to guarantee safety in all the host communities of the tertiary institutions. He observed that the police had mapped strategies to identify high -risk areas and face criminal activities in the areas populated by students.

On the question of the alleged extortion and illegal checkpoints mounted by the police officers, the CP recognized the concerns and revealed that the police inspector, Kayode Egbetokun, is already taking decisive measures to curb the threat.

“IG is working tirelessly to deal with unnecessary checkpoints and extortion issues. The Nigerians will soon begin to attend visible reforms,” he said.

Highlighting the results of the command under his leadership since he assumed the assignment in December 2024, Ogunlowo said that the police recorded a constant decline in criminal activities.

According to him, 19 suspicions were arrested in December 2024, 17 in January 2025, nine in February, March 16, April 10, May 13 and two in June.

By contacting a complaint raised during the event on the growing presence of prostitutes around the IWE IWE IROYIN press center in Abeokuta, the police chief directed the commander 2 area 2 to act immediately and ensure that the area is freed of the threat.

He praised the governor Dapo Inhabitun for his unshakable support for the police in the state, describing Ogun as one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria.

In his welcome address, the interim president of Fiban, his partner Aderoju Adejare, described the session as a vital opportunity for the media professionals to engage directly with police leadership on urgent security issues.

Adejare praised the commissioner for having honored the invitation, saying that he underlines his dedication to maintaining the law and order in the state.

The event was attended by a broad spectrum of interested parties, including the special consultant of the Governor for Security, Aig Sola Zubair (RTD), representatives of teachers, traditional leaders, unions, transport unions, police report committee (PCRC), civil society organizations, media professionals and members of Fiban, among others.
