Nollywood faith-based film, Agbara Nla: The Return, has grossed more than ₦170.6 million in its first four days in cinemas, according to its distributor, Nile Group.
The distributor announced this milestone on Monday, describing the film’s opening performance as a major achievement.
“The awakening is here. The power is moving. Agbara Nla: The Return opened with N170.6m+. It can only be God,” Nile Group said.
The distributor also thanked audiences for their support, saying the film has seen sold-out theaters and sold-out shows since its release.
The largest faith-based opening
Nile Group said the film’s performance went beyond its box office earnings, describing it as an opportunity for audiences to experience a resurgence of faith, power and transformation on the big screen.
According to the distributor, the film has marked three major milestones since its release.
It has been described as the biggest non-December Nollywood opening weekend of all time, the biggest October opening weekend of all time, and the biggest opening weekend ever for a faith-based film.
The film is currently playing in theaters nationwide.
Excellent preview performance
Agbara Nla: The Return had already generated around ₦71 million from one-day preview screenings before its official release.
According to Nigerian Box Office, a Nigerian box office analytics and advisory platform, the film generated approximately ₦70 million from 12,134 viewers during the preview period between September 25 and October 1.
The performance was reported as the largest single-day preview gross recorded in West Africa.
The 12,134 viewers was also reported as the largest first-day viewership recorded in 2026, while the ₦70 million gross was described as the largest first-day viewership for a Nollywood title.
According to the report, the film also recorded the highest daily gross of October.
Agbara Nla maintains a strong position
Agbara Nla: The Return faced competition from other titles over the weekend, including Black Market, while Star Lomo and Avengers: Endgame – Encore continued their theatrical run.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day was also among the films in the theatrical market.
Despite the competition, the film’s opening of ₦170.6 million placed it behind only Everybody Loves Jenifa and Behind the Scene among the biggest Nollywood opening weekends listed in the comparison provided by the distributor.
The film’s opening also placed it ahead of A Tribe Called Judah and Love and New Notes on the same list.
The latest milestone adds to Agbara Nla: The Return’s strong performance during the preview period, following a reported £70 million gross from 12,134 admissions ahead of its official theatrical release.
