NPFL: Rivers United vanguard excites Finidi and promises to fight for the title until the end

: Rivers United produced a commanding second half performance to defeat Abia Warriors 3-0 at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in a matchday 36 clash of the Nigerian Premier Football League.

After a cagey first half in which clear-cut opportunities were limited, the hosts came alive after the break, scoring three unanswered goals to secure a vital victory in the title race.

Speaking after the match, Rivers United coach Finidi George expressed his delight at his team’s offensive improvement, particularly their more direct approach in the second half.

“It was a good game. In the first half we couldn’t create much because they played with a low block. We kept passing without committing enough men forward,” he said.

“In the second half we were more direct and that caused them problems. Once we got the first goal, the team stood up. After the second, I knew the game was over.”

Goals from Wasiu Falolu, Timothy Zachariah and Bello Babatunde sealed the emphatic victory, pushing Rivers United within striking distance of league leaders Rangers International with just two games remaining.

Finidi emphasized that his team remains fully focused on the task ahead and insisted that they will not give up in their quest for the title.

“We all started this journey together, and now it’s the final games. There is no room for sympathy; we have to keep pushing,” he added.

Ahead of the crucial match against Wikki Tourists, the Rivers United coach stressed the importance of preparing and maintaining their good form away from home.

“There is a lot at stake. We will prepare properly and go there to win. If we can replicate our away form from earlier in the season, I think we can get the result. But in football, anything can happen.”

With the title race approaching a dramatic end, Rivers United have made it clear that they are ready to fight until the end.
