The Nigerian Revenue Service (NRS) has rejected a viral infographic claiming that the Federal Government plans to introduce a new vehicle tax from July 1.
In a statement issued by Mr Dare Adekambi, Special Adviser to NRS Chairman, Zach Adedeji, the agency said the material in circulation is misleading and does not come from official sources.
According to Adekambi, the infographic instructs private, commercial and corporate vehicle owners to pay unspecified taxes either online or through designated banks and institutions.
He noted that the document, which has no identifiable author, also directs the public to visit a website that does not belong to the agency, and is not an official NRS platform.
Adekambi stressed that the Federal Government has not imposed any new tax on vehicles, contrary to claims in circulation.
He urged Nigerians to rely only on verified government communication channels and ignore anonymous content shared online.
“NRS would like to state unequivocally that the information does not originate from any government service or agency.

“Therefore, the public is advised to ignore false messages designed to mislead the public and rely more on official government channels to obtain information regarding government policies,” he said.
Reiterating the agency’s position, Adekambi stated that the viral infographic was completely fake and encouraged Nigerians to follow social media platforms and the official website of NRS for accurate, up-to-date information on taxation policies and related matters.
