The Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has arrested seven suspects over illegal explosive activities in Ondo State.
This was disclosed by the NSCDC Public Relations Officer in the state, Daniel Aidamenbor, in a statement on Thursday in Akure.
Aidamenbor said the suspects were arrested by officers attached to the mining and steel unit of the command in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Mines led by Mayowa Omosebi.
He said: “The suspects, all residents of Akure except indigenes from different states, were arrested on Thursday, May 21 at Agbogbo Area along Ilesa–Akure–Owo Expressway, Akure.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects, all men, were involved in illegal blasting operations using explosives without the necessary licenses and permits, contrary to mining and explosives related laws.

“This operation further underscores the strong and effective collaboration between the command and relevant stakeholders in the mining sector in the state.
“This synergy has significantly enhanced intelligence sharing and enabled rapid intervention in critical situations. NSCDC Ondo State Command remains committed to protecting lives and property.
“We will continue to collaborate with similar security agencies to combat illegal mining, unlawful blasting activities and related crimes.”
