The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, Zamfara State Command, on Wednesday arrested a suspect for alleged illegal production and distribution of adulterated fertilizers and was paraded in Gusau.
The command’s public relations chief, ASCI Umar Mohammad M., said while parading the suspect on Wednesday that the operation was carried out in Unguwar Dallatu area, opposite Investment House, Gusau.
ASCI Umar revealed that officers of the command arrested Mustapha Sani, 33, who was found in possession of 550 bags of suspected counterfeit fertilizer loaded for distribution.
“Sani, who claimed ownership of the shipment and described himself as a major shareholder in the fertilizer business, reportedly confessed during interrogation that he and two accomplices Alhaji Sabo Yusuf and Abdurrahman Ibrahim, both currently at large, were involved in the illegal production and distribution network.”
The NSCDC said the suspects were involved in criminal conspiracy, illegal manufacturing and mixing of fertilisers, sale and distribution of adulterated fertilisers, possession and use of counterfeit fertilizer bags, false labelling, false representations and intent to defraud.
The command accused the suspects of impersonating Al-Yuma Fertilizer, popularly known as NAGARI, and distributing the falsely labeled products to local retailers and farmers across the state.
Zamfara State Commander, Sani Mustapha, said the command is committed to curtailing criminal activities that undermine agricultural and economic production in the state.
