Obi, Kwankwaso joins NDC after leaving ADC

Amid the prolonged uncertainty surrounding the internal crisis in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), two prominent political figures – Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso – have officially joined the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).

Obi, the Labor Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, and Kwankwaso, who flies the flag of the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP), confirmed their move during a high-level visit to the residence of NDC National Leader, Seriake Dickson.

The meeting, which was part of ongoing political consultations, saw the pair engage with Dickson and other party stakeholders on the future direction of the party and wider opposition dynamics.

Obi and Kwankwaso arrived at the location at around 17.14, continuing the discussion which then turned into a closed session. The engagement ended around 6:45 p.m

Addressing his supporters after the meeting, Kwankwaso urged his political base and allies to fully accept the NDC and strengthen its structures nationwide.

Obi, in his remarks, reportedly warned his party members not to take legal action regarding internal disputes, but instead encourage dialogue and internal mechanisms for resolving conflicts.

Their defection was widely seen as a significant development for the NDC, as the two leaders brought substantial political influence and grassroots support from various regions of the country.
