Official: Fulham appoint new manager

Fulham have appointed former Spain international Alvaro Arbeloa as their new manager, giving Super Eagles stars Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey a new manager ahead of the 2026/27 Premier League season.

The London club have confirmed that Arbeloa has signed a three-year deal to succeed Marco Silva, who left Craven Cottage after his contract expired to take over at Portuguese giants Benfica.

The appointment marks Arbeloa’s first managerial role in English football after leaving Real Madrid earlier this year.

Arbeloa begins a new chapter

Speaking after his presentation, the former Real Madrid and Liverpool defender expressed delight at taking charge of Fulham, describing the opportunity as a privilege.

He thanked Fulham owner Shahid Khan and vice-president Tony Khan for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the club into the Premier League.

Arbeloa also said he was looking forward to meeting the players, starting pre-season preparations and experiencing the atmosphere created by the Fulham fans at Craven Cottage.

“I’m really looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere at Craven Cottage with the Fulham fans and starting pre-season with the players next week. I’m sure we’ll enjoy an incredible journey together,” he said.

Managerial trip

The Spaniard arrives in London following a spell at Real Madrid, where he took charge following the departure of Xabi Alonso in January.

His time at the Santiago Bernabeu ended in May before Jose Mourinho was named his successor.

Before moving into coaching, Arbeloa had a successful playing career with Real Madrid, Liverpool and West Ham United.

He played 98 games for Liverpool before returning to Real Madrid in 2009, where he won several major honours.

New era for Fulham

Arbeloa’s arrival marks the start of a new era for Fulham as the club prepares for another Premier League season.

His immediate task will be to work with key players, including Nigerian internationals Iwobi and Bassey, who are expected to play important roles for the club next season.

The duo will begin pre-season under new manager as Fulham aim to build on their recent performances and challenge for a stronger finish in the Premier League.
