Omo-Agege joins the NDC to run for the Delta Central Senate seat

Six days after quitting the APC, former Senate Vice President Ovie Omo-Age has joined the Democratic National Congress and said he will run for Delta Central in 2027.

In a statement on Thursday, Omo-Age said the move follows weeks of consultations with advocates and stakeholders across Delta State. He said the feedback was clear: Deltas want leaders who listen, act with integrity and deliver visible results.

He said he will run on the NDC platform alongside the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi. Omo-Age commended NDC leaders, including Senator Seriake Dickson, National President, Senator Moses Cleopas, Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso for building what he described as a credible, people-centred alternative.

“This isn’t about me,” he said. “This is about the mandate you gave me in 2019 and the renewed call from our people for me to return to the Senate and provide effective representation.”

Announcement

Omo-Age accused successive governments of failing in the Delta case despite billions in federal allocations. He said too many roads are impassable, health centers lack medicines, schools are overcrowded and young graduates remain jobless while money remains idle in CBN accounts.

He pledged to push for fair allocation of federal projects in Delta Central, demand accountability for state funds, and support jobs, SMEs, agriculture, healthcare and education if elected. He also said the NDC will field credible candidates for governorship and other offices.

“The work starts now. The time is now. The people are ready,” he said.

Omo-Age said it built the APC structure in Delta when many said it was impossible, and promised to do the same for the NDC from district level and above before 2027.
