Once again, 11 killed, several wounded while the armed shepherds attack the community of Benue – Thage

At least eleven people have been reported killed and many other wounds on Tuesday following an attack on suspicious armed shepherds on the AFIA community in the area of the local government of Ukum in the state of Benue.

The latest accident arrives less than a week after the armed shepherds killed over 50 farmers in separated attacks on the areas of the local government of Ukum and the logo.

The traditional sovereign of Ukum, Iyorkyaa Kaave, revealed the attack on Tuesday in Makurdi during a security meeting.

By complaining about the incessant killings, the monarch said: β€œToday, Tuesday 22 April, the shepherds invaded AFIA in the early hours, shooting sporadically to anyone in sight. Eleven people were killed on the spot, many others have supported several degrees of injuries and many are still missing.

“These attacks began on Thursday in logo and spread to the communities of Ukum on Good Friday. We are still counting our losses, recovering more corpses and looking for disappeared people.”

Kaave appealed to the Federal Government to intervene, underlining that the shepherds behind the attacks are different from those historically known to the community.

“We want the president to know that these Fulani people are different from those with whom we settled in the 70s and 80s. At the time, they arrived during the dry season with their wives, children and cattle to remain peacefully with us.

β€œBut in recent times, they arrive with cattle and Ak-47, attacking our people in sleep. After killing, flee and later return to occupy the houses of their victims.

“The president must understand that we cannot be satisfied with killers. These people have a hidden agenda to kill and occupy, and they no longer hide it,” he said.
