Victor Osimhen insists Super Eagles coach Éric Chelle’s comments about his club’s future were taken out of context and exaggerated by some media outlets, reports completesports.com.
Speaking after his team successfully defended the Unity Cup title in London, Chelle explained that Osimhen was excluded from friendlies against Poland and Portugal to allow the striker to focus on sorting out his club’s future ahead of a potential summer transfer.
Comments by Eric Chelle
“For now we have two games, Poland and Portugal, and I have a lot of problems because some players have visa problems, players like (Samson) Tijani and (Abdullahi) Yusuf,” Chelle said.
“But the most important thing is that we miss two players because Victor Osimhen is maybe about to change clubs, so I prefer him to stay at home because if he plays and is not 100 percent it is not good.
“Lookman is very tired and Atlético asks us to apologize. We will travel with 18 players and we will see what happens after Poland and Portugal.”

Osimhen talks about the future and Chelle
Reacting to the comments, Osimhen insisted that Chelle’s comments had been misinterpreted and taken out of context.
“Just got off the phone with Coach Eric Chelle about the comments about me in his recent interview,” Osimhen wrote on Instagram.
“Unfortunately, his words have been taken out of context and exaggerated. He has great respect for Galatasaray, follows most of our matches and never intended to create any controversy.
“I appreciate the conversation, the opportunity to represent my country and I look forward to continuing to work with him.
“He is a great coach who I have a lot of respect for and I kindly ask everyone to ignore the speculation surrounding this matter. Thank you for your continued support.”
