‘Outdated’ – Nigerian Army rejects the video during the arrest of foreign weapons dealers in Zamfara

The Nigerian army has fired a viral video that shows a new arrest from a foreign weapons trader in the state of Zamfara.

Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant-Kol. Appolonia Anele, gave clarification in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.

He said the recording circulating on social media was outdated and misleading.

Anele confirmed that the video illustrated the arrest of a Shehu Ali Kachalla, a 30 -year -old Nigerien citizen captured by the Zamfara State Police Command on May 14, 2021.

He stated that the suspect was arrested in an operation led by a joint intelligence involving the Operation of the Federal Intelligence Bureau (FIB) and Special Tactical Forces (STS) from the Nigerian Police.

According to him, the suspect admitted that he illegally supplied more than 450 rifles and thousands of rounds of ammunition to criminal elements throughout the states of Zamfara, Kaduna and Niger.

Anele said: “Therefore, the rise of the old video on social media is, at least, aims to misinformation, while damaging the ongoing counter-terrorism efforts and anti-banditri efforts from the Nigerian armed forces.

“The Nigerian army maintains a zero tolerance policy for unprofessional behavior, and where there are proven cases from their personnel, appropriate disciplinary acts are always taken in line with the armed forces and other military regulations that still exist.

“While the suspect in the case of 2021 alleged collusion by security personnel who were not named, no Nigerian Army personnel were charged or arrested in connection with this problem.”
