PDP rejects the election of a local council in Edo

The Democratic People’s Party (PDP) in the state of Edo has described the election of the regional government in the state as illegal.

Chairperson of the PDP Guard Committee in the State, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, stated this while talking to journalists about training in the city of Benin.

He said the selection of interruptions scheduled in 59 wards in the state violated an abundant court order that arrested the Edo State Independent Election Commission (EDSEC) and the state government of doing so.

Aziegbemi said: “Only last week, the Edo State High Court, led by judge Mary Itsueli, ordered that the seats of elected board members who had been elected live until September 2026.

“The court in a categorical manner holds edsiec from continuing with such elections. For the state government to ignore this order and continue worrying.”

He warned that the security institution should not legitimize the process, saying that participation by the PDP would mean helping to insult the court.

“The term of office of the chairman and members of the elected council has not expired. We have five court decisions that confirm this. Conducting the election of interruptions violates the law,” said the Chairperson of the PDP.

He accused that the exercise was a tactic to suck up public funds.

The chairman said the party would concentrate on strengthening its structure through the ongoing congress ahead of the 2027 general election.

Edsiec on Saturday elections between 59 seats in council members in 18 regional government areas in the state.

The chair was declared empty through the House of the State Assembly, which quoted the attendance of previous residents.
