Police arrest suspected kidnapper, find victim’s body in Edo

Police agents in Edo have arrested a suspected member of a kidnapping syndicate and recovered the body of a kidnapped woman in the state.

This was disclosed by the Spokesperson for the State Police Command, Eno Ikoedem, in a statement on Wednesday in Benin.

He said the criminals abducted three women from their residence in Iyowa community, Ovia North East Local Government Area of ​​the state.

He said the 23-year-old suspect was arrested following an intelligence-led operation by the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) and the command’s Drone Unit.

According to him, the victims; Favor Nosakhare (66), Emmanuel Annabel Osasere (28) and Rejoice Otikpere (26), were kidnapped on May 9, when gunmen stormed their residence.

The spokesperson added that the kidnappers then contacted the victims’ relatives via video calls, during which the women were allegedly whipped and tortured while demanding ransom.

This development, he said, prompted intensive rescue efforts by officers.
