Police intercept a truck loaded with camouflage and suspected drugs in Lagos

Officers of the Nigeria Police Force in Lagos have intercepted a truck allegedly carrying military camouflage uniforms and cartons of suspected illicit substances in the south-eastern region.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, disclosed this during a press conference on Tuesday, stating that the vehicle was intercepted along the Lekki-Epe corridor while leaving the state.

Fatai said the truck was discovered to be carrying a large quantity of military camouflage along with around 80 cartons of substances suspected to be illegal drugs.

According to him, three suspects have been arrested in connection with the development, while investigations have begun to reveal the origin of the items and the intended recipients.

He said: “Preliminary investigations revealed that the truck was allegedly used to transport military camouflage uniforms to the eastern part of the country.

“Further investigations are ongoing to determine the ownership of the recovered items, establish the level of involvement of the suspects and identify other individuals connected to the crime.”

The police chief stressed that the illegal movement of military equipment poses a serious security threat, stressing that the command will intensify efforts to curb the proliferation of such materials.

In a related development, the commissioner revealed that police have rescued several foreign nationals from a potential mob attack in Epe area of ​​the state.

He said the people include 14 Chadians, nine Burkinabes, four Beninese, four Malians, two Togolese, two Cameroonians and one Ghanaian.

Fatai added that preliminary findings showed that 20 foreign nationals entered Nigeria illegally, while 18 had valid documentation under the ECOWAS protocol.

He said the matter has been referred to the relevant authorities, including the Nigeria Immigration Service and relevant embassies, for further action.

The police reiterated their commitment to maintaining security across Lagos and warned against involvement in criminal activities, especially those capable of undermining national security.
