Officers of the Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, have uncovered and dismantled a sophisticated examination malpractice syndicate that allegedly used cyber tools to interfere with the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in Delta State.
The operation, conducted at the College of Education, Warri, led to the arrest of three suspects believed to be directly involved in the technology fraud, according to a statement released on Friday in Abuja by the Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid.
Placid said the breakthrough follows intelligence-led investigations into attempts by criminal elements to compromise the integrity of the exam through unauthorized digital access and remote manipulation of candidates’ computer systems while the test was in progress.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that unauthorized remote access to candidates’ computer systems was illegally obtained during the exam,” the statement said.
Acting on reliable intelligence and digital forensic analysis, police officers reportedly conducted coordinated raids which led to the arrest of the three suspects, who are currently in custody to assist in the ongoing investigation.
Police also revealed that preliminary findings have broadened the scope of the investigation, with indications that other testing centers may have been involved in similar acts of negligence.
In response, JAMB reportedly took administrative measures, including the withdrawal of results from the affected centres, pending the conclusion of the investigations. Candidates affected by the development are expected to participate in a preliminary examination to be scheduled in line with established procedures.
The security agency has warned candidates, exam center operators and collaborators against engaging in any form of exam cheating or cyber malpractice, stressing that such actions undermine the credibility of Nigeria’s education system.
The police reiterated their commitment to dismantling criminal networks targeting national exams, adding that all suspects and accomplices will be diligently investigated and prosecuted.
